Information Technology - Technical Support

The Information Technology major is designed to provide students interested in beginning, changing, or advancing technology careers with a broad-based background in all areas of Information Technology.  IT Majors with this option are qualified for positions as Desktop Support Technician, Help Desk Specialist, Internet Support Specialist, Microcomputer Support Specialist, Office Systems Support Specialist, and Technical Support Specialist.  Students will be prepared to support computing in a networked environment and also be able to transfer to selected institutions of higher learning.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental concepts and theories of Information Technology (Networking, Security, Databases, Information Literacy).
  • Apply various problem-solving and critical-thinking techniques to develop algorithmic solutions.
  • Utilize productivity software suitable for use in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrate communication skills, professionalism, and ethical behavior as an Information Technology professional in a culturally diverse business environment.
  • Support PC Users in the use of computer hardware and software.
  • Develop application-based solutions within the context of a business system.

Note: For CIS 294, Internship Program, students must have a 3.0 GPA and recommendations from a CIS full-time faculty.
