Gerontology Specialist

This career certificate is intended for those students interested in gaining knowledge and skills to effectively meet the needs of the aging population in a wide range of careers. Careers exist within governmental programs and agencies; public and private institutions that provide health, education, and social services; research centers; and, special interest groups for the geriatric
population.

Graduates will be able to:

  • Assess the need of appropriate services to the geriatric population.
  • Explain current intervention options (physical, psychological, and social).
  • Select appropriate procedures and actions for the families of the aged.
  • Review critically the literature on mental health of the aged.

Note:

For gerontology option, placement should be in a geriatric facility.
