( 3 :0 :0 ) 3 credits

Students will study modern philosophy and will demonstrate a written and verbal understanding of the major issues and problems in the development of modern epistemology and ontology. The course is designed to give the student an historical and thematic introduction to the traditional modern thinkers: the debate between the Rationalists and the Empiricists, Kant’s Transcendental Idealism, Hegel’s critique of Kant, and Nietzsche’s overcoming of metaphysics. The major controversies of the Enlightenment period are a central concern in this course.
